Graham wins construction job
Graham, a privately-owned company that specialises in the delivery of award-winning building, civil engineering, interior fit-out, facilities management and investment projects, has been awarded the contract by South Bank Colleges to build the new London South Bank Technical College at Nine Elms in Vauxhall, London.
Procured through Pagabo’s £10 billion Major Works Framework, the 10,000 sq m further education teaching facility is a purpose-designed building that will provide 10 storeys of teaching, learning and support space for science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths.
Designed by Architecture PLB to create a distinctive identity, the building will feature a strong façade comprising brick work and curtain walling at lower levels with a distinctive pleated metal cladding incorporating the upper stories.
The Marketing to Contractors & Housebuilders feature (which is sponsored by South East Construction Expo) in the Sectors section of our Directory provides an overview of the sector, including
details of its various media channels and events, together with access to our downloadable database of those with responsibility for procurement at key firms.
Internally, the ground and first floor will accommodate a two-storey section containing the main entrance and informal learning space, café, and large workshops for construction skills training, upon which the remaining eight stories will sit on a narrower teaching floor plate. A key feature of the design is the ‘digital spine,’ a series of double-height spaces that stack above one another, starting with the reception area and higher up in the building where there will be room to support informal and collaborative learning, supported by up to date technology.
Rob Joyce, Regional Director at Graham, said, “This state-of-the-art project reflects a huge commitment to investing in London’s education infrastructure and we couldn’t be prouder to partner with Lambeth College in bringing this latest phase of development forward.
“It is universally recognised across the construction industry that procurement can be a challenging and exhaustive process, but we’re proud to be on a number of national frameworks that champion collaboration and are committed to delivering social value. Pagabo is no exception to this, and we are delighted to have won this project through its framework.”
The project has been designed to create a low-carbon campus that can be sustainably managed and maintained for years to come and is expected to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. Construction commenced in early 2021.
