Returning after a 2-year hiatus due to COVID-19, Sydney Build 2022 has successfully delivered on a promise of becoming bigger and better than ever before. The event has become the largest b2b exhibition in Australia (counting by the number of exhibitors) and welcomed 17,444 attendees across two days.

The event’s show floor incorporated a unique format designed to stimulate business networking opportunities between attendees and 528 individual exhibitors representing over 1,000 brands. With all exhibitors investing a huge amount of time and effort into creating attractive and engaging exhibition stands, winners have been announced in 4 different categories that stood out the most in a crowded field. Those winners were Wurth, Procore & MYOB, Opie Group and TFH Hire Services.

Uniting thousands of construction experts, architects, engineers, contractors, designers, government personnel and aspiring tradies was no easy task. That’s why Sydney Build Expo has themed it’s 400 top-level speakers into 8 themed stages scattered throughout the venue’s floor. The CPD-accredited presentations and panel discussions encompassed a plethora of exclusive industry insights; touching upon topics of interest prevalent within the field of construction and shedding light on the first-hand experience of industry professionals.

A new addition to the event agenda for 2022 has become Mental Health Workshops, organized in partnership with the leading NGOs in the field of mental wellbeing and suicide prevention – R U OK?, Black Dog Institute and Beyond Blue. With the national construction industry suffering pandemic-related setbacks in recent months, Sydney Build Expo proved the importance of supporting initiatives such as R U OK? Tradies in an effort to break down stigmas about mental health and encourage open conversations about personal struggles.

Rivalling that of any construction show worldwide, Sydney Build Expo boasted highly esteemed speakers, among them Shannon Battisson, National President of the Australian Institute of Architects; Linda Scott, President of Australian Local Government Association; YinMan, Digital Director of the Office of the Building Commissioner; James Glastonbury, Executive General Manager – Engineering, Technology & Innovation at McConnell Dowell; Subha Chari, Head of Digital Product Delivery at Lendlease; Cate Cowlishaw, Managing Principal at HDR.

In addition, thousands of people gathered at the Networking Area for a number of sessions organised by Sydney Build’s event partners, including NAWIC, WIDAC, Resolution Institute, BCI Central, InHouseGroup3, Houzz Pro and Global GreenTag, as well as the 2 Signature Networking sessions that have become a staple of the Sydney Build Expo. Diversity in Construction Networking Event took place on Day 1 to explore the idea of driving change and diversity and making Australia’s built environment more inclusive; and Australia’s largest-ever free meeting of Women in Construction, sponsored by Blackwoods, which took place on Day 2, offering the chance for all professionals and students interested in construction, architecture, engineering and related fields to network, learn and feel inspired.

After such a successful event behind them, the organisers of Sydney Build promptly announced new dates for the 2023 show, which will take place at ICC Sydney on March 6 – 7th, 2023.

The event agenda will be released at a later stage, but representatives from CPB Contractors, Lendlease, Laing O’Rourke, Cox Architecture, AECOM, Downer and John Holland have already confirmed to take on centre stage at the newly announced:

  • Main Stage
  • Digital Construction Stage
  • Sustainability Stage
  • Infrastructure Stage
